6 Games With Controls for Tinnitus-Like Sound Effects

High-pitched ringing after explosions, stun grenades, or other intense events can be uncomfortable for some players. The following games include built-in controls for removing, reducing, replacing, or filtering these effects.

Access needs and sound sensitivities vary. The settings also work differently: some remove a specific effect, while others change frequencies across the game’s audio.

Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West includes an option to remove sounds described by Guerrilla as similar to tinnitus, including certain machine shrieks.

The official Horizon Forbidden West accessibility overview confirms the feature for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. On PS5, players can also reduce machine sounds, weapon and explosion sounds, and ambient sounds separately.

The tinnitus option does not necessarily remove every high-frequency sound. The additional sound-category controls are specifically documented for PS5.

The Last of Us Part I

The Last of Us Part I has a built-in Tinnitus Sound setting. Turning it off disables the ringing-ear effect used when the player is close to an explosion.

The setting appears under Combat Accessibility in the official PlayStation accessibility feature list. It was verified for the PlayStation 5 edition.

This switch applies to the explosion-proximity effect. It does not mute explosions or reduce unrelated high-pitched sounds.

F1 25

F1 25 takes a different approach through its Tinnitus Relief Filter. Players can calibrate the filter to remove frequency bands they find problematic rather than simply disabling one scripted sound effect.

EA documents the filter in the official F1 25 accessibility guide. The guide covers the US English version on PC and consoles.

The filter may provide more control than an event-specific switch, but it can also change other sounds within the selected frequency range. EA notes that not every setting can be adjusted during a race or used with every difficulty mode.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora allows Tinnitus Effects to be turned off through its built-in audio settings.

The official Ubisoft accessibility spotlight confirms the option for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna, and PC through Ubisoft Connect.

Ubisoft does not identify every sound affected by this setting. It should not be treated as a general high-frequency audio filter.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Black Ops 6 includes a Reduce Tinnitus Sound option. Instead of completely muting the relevant audio, it replaces the ringing produced by Concussion and Flash Grenades with a duller sound.

The effect and its limitation are explained in the official Black Ops 6 accessibility announcement. The game is available on Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

Players should expect a replacement sound rather than silence.

Rainbow Six Siege X

Rainbow Six Siege X provides a configurable tinnitus sound effect for explosions and stun grenades. Its audio settings also include dynamic-range control, which can lower the loudest sounds.

Ubisoft lists both controls in the official Rainbow Six Siege X accessibility spotlight. The game is available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

The documentation does not specify whether the tinnitus effect can be completely disabled or only adjusted. Players should review the current Audio menu before relying on full removal.

All six options are built into their respective games and do not require mods. Live-service settings can change, so check current patch notes and in-game menus when exact behaviour matters.
