Pickpocketing in Assassin’s Creed Mirage is more than an incidental animation. It is a recurring interaction connected to Basim’s identity as a thief, the acquisition of money and tokens, and objectives that require items to be taken from particular people. Under the standard rules, successfully initiating a theft is followed by a quick-time event that asks the player to respond within a limited window.

The Guaranteed Pickpocket option removes that quick-time event. Ubisoft describes the setting as allowing players to disable the pickpocket QTE. The theft can therefore succeed without requiring the additional precisely timed response that would normally occur after the interaction begins.

This is a narrowly targeted accessibility feature. It does not automate stealth, move Basim through the crowd, identify every useful target, or complete an entire mission. Instead, it removes one timing-dependent test from an otherwise unchanged activity. That distinction makes Guaranteed Pickpocket a useful example of how a game can preserve an action’s surrounding decisions while making its execution less dependent on reaction speed and precise timing.

How the standard pickpocket interaction creates a timing barrier

To pickpocket someone under the standard rules, the player first has to find an appropriate person, approach without causing trouble, enter a suitable position, and initiate the interaction. The resulting QTE then adds another requirement: the player must interpret a changing visual prompt and press the required input during its success period.

That last stage combines several demands. The player has to notice that the timing sequence has begun, visually follow its progression, anticipate or recognize the correct moment, and produce an input before the opportunity passes. The interval is brief enough that hesitation, delayed perception, an involuntary movement, or difficulty shifting attention between elements can result in failure.

A timed prompt can consequently measure more than whether someone understands how to pickpocket. It may also measure visual processing speed, reaction time, motor precision, and the ability to coordinate perception with a button press. Those are materially different abilities from deciding when it is safe to approach a target.

This distinction becomes especially important because pickpocketing is repeated. A player who can occasionally complete one QTE may still experience pain, fatigue, inconsistency, or mounting cognitive pressure when asked to perform the same timed action throughout a longer session.

What Guaranteed Pickpocket changes

With Guaranteed Pickpocket enabled, the separate timing test is disabled. The player still initiates the pickpocket interaction, but the game no longer requires successful completion of its quick-time event.

Basim does not begin independently stealing from everyone nearby, and the setting does not turn pickpocketing into a passive source of resources. This is closer to automatic resolution than timing assistance. A larger success window would preserve the same test while making it more forgiving. A slower indicator would reduce its speed. Guaranteed Pickpocket goes further by removing the test itself once the theft has been initiated.

Removing the QTE can provide a more dependable result than merely adjusting its difficulty. A player does not have to estimate whether an expanded window will be large enough on a particular attempt or during a period of increased fatigue. The timed component is no longer part of the interaction.

Motor-access implications

Guaranteed Pickpocket may help players who have difficulty producing a button press within a short and externally determined interval. Possible barriers include reduced dexterity, tremor, muscle weakness, joint pain, limb difference, slower movement, and inconsistent response timing. Experiences vary considerably, so the setting should not be treated as a universal solution for any one disability.

The option may also reduce the need for abrupt movement. A player can initiate the theft using a comfortable technique without immediately having to prepare for another precisely timed input. This may be relevant when using a controller placement, grip, or alternative-input arrangement that makes rapid transitions between actions difficult.

Repeated timed presses can have a cumulative cost even when each individual movement appears minor. Someone managing pain or fatigue might be able to perform the standard QTE early in a session but find it increasingly uncomfortable or unreliable later. Removing the timing check may make the outcome more consistent while reducing avoidable repetition.

The setting does not address every physical demand in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Players must still navigate its three-dimensional environments, control Basim in crowds, position him near targets, and use other inputs during stealth, parkour, and combat. Guaranteed Pickpocket removes one motor barrier; it does not make the game independent of conventional movement and action controls.

Cognitive and visual-timing demands

Although Ubisoft lists Guaranteed Pickpocket under motor accessibility, the QTE can also present cognitive or perceptual barriers. A short visual sequence may be difficult for someone who needs additional processing time, has trouble redirecting attention quickly, or becomes overloaded when several pieces of screen information compete for attention.

The surrounding context matters. Pickpocketing commonly takes place in visually active crowds, often while the player is monitoring movement, nearby guards, the target, and Basim’s position. The QTE temporarily adds a new focal demand. A player who understands the task may still miss its successful interval while shifting attention from the environment to the prompt.

Removing the QTE can make the interaction more predictable. Once the player has chosen a suitable target and initiated the action, there is no second visual timing stage to interpret. That may support players who benefit from fewer rapidly changing task rules or who find the anticipation of a narrow success window stressful.

Guaranteed Pickpocket should not be confused with a general cognitive-assistance mode. It does not provide additional instructions, simplify the investigation board, mark every target, or explain when a theft is strategically useful. Its cognitive benefit is limited to removing the processing and timing demands of this particular QTE.

Simplification versus automatic completion

Calling the feature “guaranteed” can create the impression that it automatically completes everything associated with stealing an item. Its actual scope is smaller. The setting guarantees the resolution of the pickpocket interaction by disabling its QTE; it does not complete the surrounding approach, navigation, or objective.

This preserves several elements of player agency. The player decides whom to approach, when to act, and whether the surrounding circumstances are suitable. Pickpocketing remains an intentional action performed within the world rather than an item that appears automatically in the inventory whenever Basim passes nearby.

At the same time, the setting does remove the possibility of failing specifically because of the quick-time event. Players who enjoy that timing challenge may prefer to leave the option disabled. Accessibility does not require every player to use the same rule set, and retaining the standard interaction as an option allows different preferences to coexist.

The design also avoids treating a failed motor response as proof that the player made a poor stealth decision. Someone may correctly identify a target, approach unnoticed, and initiate the theft at an appropriate moment but still be blocked by the brief timing check. Guaranteed Pickpocket allows those planning decisions to stand without a separate reaction test overriding them.

How it differs from broader difficulty changes

A general difficulty setting usually changes a collection of systems, potentially including enemy behavior, combat pressure, damage, or detection. That can be useful, but it may also alter parts of the experience that a player does not want changed.

Guaranteed Pickpocket is granular. A player can remove this one timing requirement without necessarily reducing combat difficulty or changing how guards respond elsewhere. Someone may enjoy demanding stealth and combat while still needing an alternative to a short visual QTE.

Granular settings are valuable because access needs do not always align with conventional easy, normal, and hard presets. Reaction timing during pickpocketing, navigation through a crowded city, and strategic combat are separate demands. Difficulty in one area does not reliably predict difficulty in another.

The setting is also different from control remapping. Remapping changes which input performs an action, which may make the control physically reachable or allow it to be placed on adaptive equipment. It does not necessarily remove the need to activate that input within a short window. Guaranteed Pickpocket changes the timing rule itself.

Combining the option with other controls

Players can use Guaranteed Pickpocket alongside Assassin’s Creed Mirage control options rather than treating it as a substitute for them. Ubisoft documents control remapping, sensitivity adjustments, alternative behavior for some held inputs, stick-swapping options, D-pad menu navigation, and shortcuts for quickly selecting tools.

Remapping may place commonly used actions where they are easier to reach. Adjusted sensitivity can help with camera or pointer control. Changing hold behavior may reduce sustained pressure during compatible interactions. Guaranteed Pickpocket then removes the separate timed response from thefts. Together, these settings can address different stages of control rather than asking one option to solve every barrier.

A player who uses screen narration or larger interface elements may also benefit from combining those features with Guaranteed Pickpocket. Interface adjustments can improve access to menus and other information, while the pickpocket option removes a transient visual timing requirement. The usefulness of any combination will depend on which parts of the game remain readable and controllable for the individual player.

Remaining risks and limitations

Disabling the QTE does not remove the need to recognize potential targets or move through visually dense environments. It does not supply route automation, automatic crowd navigation, or a nonvisual method for locating every pickpocket opportunity. Players who cannot access those stages may still be unable to perform the interaction independently.

The surrounding stealth consequences also remain relevant. The option removes a mechanical timing check; it should not be read as immunity from the game’s detection, notoriety, or guard systems. Poor positioning or other actions in the environment can still create danger.

Guaranteed Pickpocket is similarly not a replacement for comprehensive alternative-input support. A player must still be able to provide the input that initiates the theft and control the broader game. Remapping can improve compatibility in some configurations, but remapping software alone does not establish support for every controller, switch interface, touch arrangement, or assistive device.

Ubisoft’s original accessibility documentation identifies the feature for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Amazon Luna versions announced at launch. Assassin’s Creed Mirage was later adapted for compatible iPhones and iPads with optimized touch controls and controller support. Because Ubisoft’s public Guaranteed Pickpocket description does not separately document the mobile implementation, players relying on the option should confirm its presence and behavior in their current iOS build rather than assuming complete settings parity.

The setting’s name may also obscure its narrow scope. “Guaranteed” describes the pickpocket resolution after the interaction is initiated. It does not mean guaranteed access to every target, automatic completion of theft-related missions, or removal of every time-sensitive action elsewhere in the game.

A focused alternative to a recurring QTE

Ubisoft’s official accessibility spotlight for Assassin’s Creed Mirage describes Guaranteed Pickpocket as an option that disables the pickpocket quick-time event. That concise description is important: the feature removes a specific timed precision requirement without claiming to automate the broader stealth activity.

For players who can make the strategic decisions involved in theft but cannot reliably satisfy its brief reaction window, this separation may reduce an unnecessary barrier. It also allows the option to be combined with remapping, hold alternatives, sensitivity adjustments, and interface features according to the player’s needs.

Access needs vary, and Guaranteed Pickpocket will not resolve the game’s navigation, visual-identification, stealth, or general input demands. Its practical value is precise: it prevents one recurring pickpocket QTE from blocking an otherwise successful interaction.
